EcoBih, a large-scale sheep farm, needed to simplify their daily operations, improve task management, and gain better insights for decision-making. Through on-site visits, employee interviews, and workflow analysis, we discovered the need for a user-friendly interface, automated task management, and quick access to sheep information.

Designing for Novice Users
Our journey began with a deep dive into understanding the unique needs and challenges faced by EcoBiH. By visiting the farm and engaging with employees, we gained valuable insights into the daily operations and identified opportunities for improvement. It was clear that simplicity and efficiency were paramount for the farmers, who were not accustomed to complex digital tools.
Streamlined Task Management
To address the need for simplicity, we implemented one-click completion for various work orders. This change significantly eased the task management process, making it accessible even to non-tech-savvy farmers.
Enhanced Operational Efficiency
We automated routine tasks like weighing sheep, which were scheduled and generated automatically. This provided early visibility of tasks, saving time and improving overall farm productivity.
Improved Farm Navigation and Efficiency
We introduced a feature to organize the farm into pens, allowing farmers to quickly locate and track sheep. This organization reduced time spent searching for animals, streamlining daily operations and future-proofed the design for further updates and new features that will be implemented in the next phase of the project.
Proactive Decision-Making in Admin Dashboard
Our admin dashboard provided managers with real-time insights into farm performance, including key metrics like birth and death rates. This facilitated better monitoring and timely decision-making.
Informed Animal Care
We developed a feature to maintain detailed records of each sheep’s medical treatments, vaccinations, and health observations. These comprehensive records helped farmers make informed decisions about the care and treatment of their animals, as well as follow the local laws of animal care.
Enhanced Weight Monitoring
We implemented a feature to track the weight fluctuations of individual sheep over time. This provided valuable insights into their nutritional status and overall well-being, allowing farmers to adjust feeding regimens and identify potential health issues early, as well as giving managers insight into the needs of the farm in terms of food needs of the farm.
Looking ahead, EcoBiH plans to implement NFC chips on the sheep to track their precise location, status, and breeding processes. This advancement will further optimize farm management by providing real-time visibility of each sheep, even as the farm continues to grow. These features are expected to be added in the future when the decision on the use of hardware is made by the stakeholders, and hopefully this case study will be expanded with addition of UX solutions to help them manage that part of the app as well.
Through our collaborative efforts, EcoBiH has undergone a significant transformation in farm management practices. By leveraging our user-centric design approach, we delivered a solution that not only meets the needs of the farmers but also enhances operational efficiency and decision-making capabilities. With future enhancements on the horizon, EcoBiH is well-positioned to continue the expansion of the farm without the fear of getting lost in the management.
